maintained.-There is little or nothing doing in Geneva. DYEWOODS-Dyewoods have become in demand on speculation; the prices generally are on the advance. SPICES-The request for Pepper has subsided-Nutmegs are still in demand, OIL.-There was a great advance in the prices of Whale Oil last Saturday, owing to the arrival of three expresses from Hull, stating that the Davis Straits fishery was likely to be very unfavourable; Greenland Oil advanced, in consequence to our present quotations on Saturday and Monday Jast, since which the prices have been stationary -Co and Seal Oils are also higher-In the other descriptions there is little alteration. TALLOW.-Tallow advances with unprecedented rapidity: for Yellow Candle here 86s has in several instances been realized; the holders now ask 88, cwt.-The Town market to-day quoted 893 6d, which is 6s, 6d, higher than last week. RICE-The prices of Rice are little varied; the demand has however given way: the sales reported for the last few days have been very limited. TOBACCO.-The demand for Tobacco has not been so extensive as during the preceding week; the prices are however firmly maintained; no parcels under 9d.; ordinary and middling good 104d, a lld. a 13d. FRIDAY, SEPt. 4. SUGAR.-The demand for Muscovades has been exceedingly limited all the week, yet the holders are very firm, and will submit to no depression whatever in the prices; the market may be stated nominally the same as last week. In Refined goods there is little business doing, and in several instances prices a shade lower have been submitted to, yet no general depression can be stated.-Molasses are in request at our quotations. There was a large sale of East India Sugars brought forward this week; the whole went off freely much about the prices of the last India House sale. COFFEE, There has heen extensive public sales of Coffee brought forward this week; the prices on Tuesday declined 3s per ewt. since which the market has remained steady: the sales went off without briskness, except for the finer descriptions, which realized prices a shade higher. TOBACCO.-Several parcels of this article have arrived during the last month, and our stock has increased nearly 1000 hhds although more business was done in exports. The idea of exporting orders coming into market has with various other causes enhanced the prices of Tobacco very considerably of late: 95s, to 105s. is asking for Marylands in cargoes; 80s to 90s. for Virginia, Richmond inspection; 75 to 78s, for Petersburgh inspection; and 655 to 70s, for Kentucky; and holders are in sanguine expectation of further advances. no COTTON.-The demand for Cotton since our last has been inconsiderable, and as the news from the manufacturing districts this morning are more alarming than any that have been received, it will doubt affect the prices of Cotton, should the spinners not return to their work, of which at present there is no probability. The sales of Cotton since our last consist of-205 Pernams 2$ 2d.; 100 Bahias 2s. fd to 2s ld.; 53 Smyrnas 178.; 45 Surats 124d to 18d. in the house; 310 Bengals 10d to 12 ditto The India sale declared for 18th inst. consists of above 30,000 bags Cotton. SPICES.-Pepper is heavy on account of considerable arrivals-Mace is in inproving demand. RICE. The prices of Rice are a shade lower, and little business doing. OIL. The prices of Oil advance with rapidity: for Greenland our quotation has been realized, and a further rise is anticipated-Southern is 41 per ton higher.-Rape Oil is also greatly advanced. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.The prices of Rum are rather lower; our or two considerable sales have been effected at a small depression, but the demand is by no means general; the market may be stated heavy. There is some appearence of a revival in the request for Brandies, particnlarly Spanish.-In Geneva there is no al teration. TALLOW. The prices of Tallow continue still to advance; for parcels here, Yellow Candle 91s, has been realized, and the holders now ask a further improvement, and 90s. for all the year has been paid. The Town market is to day quoted 90s. 6d. which is Is. higher than last week. FRIDAY, SEPt, 11. SUGAR.-The demand for Sugar has been limited all the week, and in consequence of the continuance of the heavy market, purchases may be made Is per cwt. lower, but there is little or no business doing at the reduction: several extensive holders will submit to no decline whatever. There is every prospect of an improvement in the demand for Refined Sugars; the request for Lumps has revived, and the sales are so considerable, that there are few left, and the greater proportion to be ready for a fortnight to come are already purchased: Loaves are also scarce at improving prices.-Molasses: continue in request.-Foreign Sugars are. still in demand. Tuesday and Wednesday last gave way COFFEE. The prices of Coffee on about 5s. per cwt. An extensive sale was brought forward yesterday, which went off steadily, and about 1s, per cwt, higher than. the prices realized on the Wednesday; the exporters appeared the chief purchasers : 1818.] the market may be stated firm at the quoted currency, with some appearance of an improvement. COTTON.-The sales of Cotton since our last are limited as to quantity; the purchases however have been Cotton of good quality, which realizes very high prices: the East India descriptions are very heavy, on account of the extensive sale declared for this day week. The purchases of Cotton since our last consist of-193 Pernams 2s 2d to 24d.; 60 Demeraras 2s. 2d. ; 146 Boweds 2148. to 224d.; 160 Surats 114d. to 123d, in the house; 180 Bengals 93d. to 102d do. OIL. The prices of Greenland Oil have declined very considerably, the extensive demand on speculation having ceased-Southeru Oil is a shade lower-Sperm, on account of its scarcity not only maintains the Jate currency, but may again be quoted at a small advance-Seal Oil is lower.-In the other descriptions there is no variation. RICE.-The demand for Rice has rather given way, and purchases may be made a shade lower. TOBACCO.-The demand for Tobacco has not been so brisk or extensive; the prices are little varied. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.The demand for Rum during this week has become brisk; the business done chiefly in Leewards and low Jamaica, which descriptions may be quoted at the advance of Id. per gallon: the finer qualities are little inquired after, and may be purchased on lower terms.-There are considerable sales of inferior Brandy.-Geneva is scarce, and the holders will not sell except at a considerable advance. Foreign TALLOW.-The prices of Tallow are considerable lower since this day week; yesterday Yellow Candle Tallow here was sold at 88 and the market looked beavy; there is however a great renewal in the demand this morning, and an advance has already taken place; the price at 3 o'clock may be stated 89s. and 89s. 6d. and for arrival during the season 87. 6d. and 88.-The Town market is to-day quoted 91s, which is 6d, higher than last week. FRIDAY, SEPT. 18. SUGAR.-The demand for British Plantation Sugars has been very limited all the week, and the few purchases made are at prices a shade lower: no material reduction can however be stated, as the greater proportion of the holders remain firm, and will submit to no decline to facilitate sales. The business done in Refined this week has not been extensive; the market may be quoted steady: the purchases of Lumps for some time past have been so considerable, that few parcels ready for shipping are to met with. Loaves are in better supply, and may be purchased on lower terms.-Molasses are heavy and declining. The demand for Havannah Sugars continues: 1422 chests were brought forward by public sale; the whole went off rather freelyWhite good and fiue 70s, to 73s. 6d. ; yellow 53 to 56s 6d.; brown 50s and 51s 6d. COFFEE. The prices of Coffee declined 25 to 3s. on Wednesday. Yesterday the market recovered again, though the demand appeared languid, and a considerable porportion was taken in. There were no public sales this forenoon; the Coffee market may be stated exceedingly heavy; the prices nominally the same as on this day week, but the sales difficult to be effected, except, the holders submit to a small decline. COTTON.-The extensive sale of about 35,000 bags Cotton commenced this morning; at one o'clock, having got through one half, it was adjourned till Monday. The sale appears to go off very heavily; the ordinary Bengals bave been chiefly taken in at 8ed to 9d; very good quality sold 9d and 934.; but as the sale is not above one half finished, no correct idea can yet be formed of the ultimate result: no Surats, Bourbon, &c. have yet been on sale. The purchases of Cotton by private contract for the week, up to the evening of yesterday, have been too trivial to enumerate. To-day, after the India sale closed, the following public sale was brought for ward-338 bags ordinary Pernambuco, all withdrawn, 2sd and 2s. Id.; 47 bags Grenada, sold 20ĝd to 213d. As the sale of Bengals affords a criterion for giving quo tations, the following may be considered to-day's sale prices-- Bengals, ordinary, 8 d to 9d.; good, 94d. to 93d.; prime, 10 to 10žd. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.The demand for Rum has again revived: yesterday extensive purchasers appeared at market, and bought freely; Leewards 3s. 3d, for under proofs, and 3s 4d. to 3s 6d for better descriptions; the prices must in consequence be quoted at an advance of fully Id per gallon scarcely any parcels offer under 3. 4d,; the lower qualities of Jamaica Rum are also in great demand; the finer descriptions are little varied.-Brandy is exceedingly heavy, and may be purchased on lower terms.-Geneva is without variation. OIL. The prices of Oil continue to fluctuate-Greenland bad declined to 414, but the demand has since revived, and higher rates were yesterday realized. South Sea has also considerably advanced-Rape Oil is a shade lower. TALLOW.-Tallow continues subject to great fluctuations; early in the week the demand was brisk: Yellow Candle 91s.; the request has since given way, the market heavy at 90s.; and for all the year 88s-the town market is to day quoted 92s 6d. which is 1s 6d, higher than last week.
