FRIDAY, AUG. 28.

SUGAR-The Sugar market has been rather heavy this week, yet no depression whatever in the prices can be stated; the holders are very firm and will submit to no decline to facilitate sales. The demand for Refined goods was brisk early in the week; since Tuesday the request has become more limited, and, as there are more goods coming forward, the prices have receded-Foreign Sugars continue inquired after, but few sales to any extent have taken place.

COFFEE-There have been great fluctuations in Coffee this week. On Wednesday the prices declined 85 to 9s per cwt.; yesterday two extensive sales were brought forward; the latter went off with great briskness at from 5s to 6s. per cwt, higher prices than the day preceding, making the prices 2s. to 4s. per cwt. lower than on this day week. The fluctuation in the prices of Coffee is owing to the decline of Wednesday, which brought extensive ship

pers forward to complete their orders, which have for some time been unexecuted on account of the high prices; the demand in consequence became so animated and extensive that an advance immediately took place. There were no public sales of Coffee this forenoon; the demand by private contract appears very languid.

COTTON. The sales of Cotton this week are considerable, though not so extensive as the one preceding. The purchases are nearly 2300 packages; viz. 700 Pernams 2s 2d to 2s 24d.; 500 Bahias 2s to 2s. 850 Boweds 214d to 22d : 200 Bengals 92d to 12d.—And by public sale-50 Grenadas 22d.

RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDSThe prices of Rum are without any variation; there is not much business doing: the holders are however firm, and will submit to no depression to facilitate sales-The holders of Brandy are calculating that the vintage this season will be very deficient ; the prices of Brandy in consequence are
