460 TOBACCO.-There is no variation in the prices of Tobacco; the business lately done has been considerable. TALLOW -The deputation that waited upon the Chancellor of the Exchequer relating to the proposed new duties, state, that the present duty will not be altered; the additional duty that was proposed having been given up. The prices of Tallow are nearly nominal on account of the little business doing.-Foreign Tallow may be quoted a shade lower.-The Town market is to-day stated 80s. which is 2s. lower than last week. FRIDAY, MAY 1. COTTON,-The sales of Cotton for the week up to the evening of yesterday, are 1500 bags; the greater proportion purchased on Saturday last; since then the market has become exceedingly heavy on account of extensive arrivals from the United States, and further supplies being looked for immediately. The purchases since our last consist of 800 Pernams 2s. Id. to 2s. 24d.; 300 Minas 224d. to 224d. ; a few Surinams 2s. 1d.; 300 Bengals 1048, to 1244. in the house. SUGAR.-The Sugar market continues very heavy; there is some inquiry for the good descriptions, which are very scarce, but the inferior browns hang beavily on hand, though offered at a further reduction of 1s. per cwt. In the Refined market there is little doing; the prices are little varied: some purchases have been made in Lumps for the Russia trade, but every other description remains withont inquiry.-Molasses have been in much request; the prices are higher, yet there is not so much briskness to-day. At the India House yesterday a public sale, consisting of 4500 bags Sugar was brought forwafd-brown, ordinary, 38s. ;. white, low and soft, 40s. to 48.; good, 50s. 6d. to 53s.; Beerboom, strong, 43s. 6d. to 50s. 6d. COFFEE. There was great briskness in the Coffee market early in the week; the prices advanced 2s. to 3s. per cwt.; the request was particularly for St. Domingo, Havannah, and Cheribon; the demand had since rather subsided, and at a public sale yesterday, the greater proportion of the Coffee was taken in.-This forenoon another sale consisting of 181 casks and 186 bags, went off again with briskness; the prices obtained early in the week were fully supported, and some appearance of a further. advance. OIL.-The briskness in the demand for Oils has subsided: the prices are again giving way. -Greenland and Southern may both be quoted 11. lower.-Spermaceti has fallen considerably on account of further arrivals.-Rape and Linseed Oils are also quoted at a considerable reduction. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS. There is more business doing in Rum, and some appearance of a reviving market; the prices are little varied.-The quotations of Brandy are nominal--The purchases of Hollands continue very limited. RICE. The sale of East-India Rice yesterday went off at prices a shade lower. TALLOW.-The quotations of Foreign Tallow are entirely nominal; there is no business doing. The Town market is today quoted 78s. 6d, which is 1s. 6d. lower than last week. FRIDAY, MAY 8. COTTON.-The Cotton market has been exceedingly heavy owing to the extensive arrivals: this forenoon the sale at the India House went off very heavily; the Surats at public sale of Berbice Cotton advertised a depression of fully d. per lb. Another for to day, was withdrawn, in consequence of the depression and heavy market. Yesterday by public sale, 47 bags, 100 serons Berbice, went off at full prices - the former 2s. d. to 2s. d.; the latter 19 d. to 20 d. The purchases by private contract since our last are-a few Smyrnas 184d.; 80 Bengals 1038. to 123d in the house. The sound Bengals in to day's sale were all taken in 10d, to 104. The Cotton market may be stated exceedingly heavy. SUGAR.-There was a considerable demand for good Sugars early in the week, and parcels of the new crop at market sold readily at prices fully 2s. per cwt, higher than the old. Yesterday and this forenoon however the request has rather given way; several arrivals have taken place, and we may now expect further and considerable supplies daily: good Sugars are however much wanted both by the wholesale grocers and refiners, and the first arrivals will probably go off freely about the present market currency. With the exception of the demand for Refined Sugars for the Russia market, there has been little business doing, and the prices of refined may be stated at a small depression. -Molasses have continued steady during the week. The holders of Havannah and Brazil Sugars, who have for a length of time kept their stocks from market in anticipation of an advance, are now inclined to effect sales at the market prices of the day; we have not heard however of any purchases. Today at the India House, the East India Sugar brought forward to public sale went off without briskness; the brown descriptions were 2s, per cwt, lower; the better qualities were without variation. COFFEE.-There was a general and most extensive demand for Coffee on Saturday and Monday last; the prices advanced 3s. to 5s. per cwt.; the request has since given way, and the holders are very anxious to effect sales at the market prices of Monday, which are not now attainable. Coffee may be stated heavy, but no depression has yet taken place. TOBACCO.-There is little doing in Tobacco; the prices keep high. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.The prices of Rum are little varied; the holders are firm, but there is little business doing: the quantity lately exported is very extensive.-Were offers made for Brandy in the present languid state of the market, lower prices would be submitted to; but as there is no business doing, we cannot quote a decline.-Geneva is unvaried. TALLOW. The prices of Foreign Tallow are entirely nominal; there have been Do sales whatever.-The Town market is to-day quoted 7fis. 6d. which is 2s. lower than last week. FRIDAY, MAY 15. COTTON.-The market has been exceedingly heavy since our last, owing to the extensive imports at Liverpool, and the very large supplies of East India descriptions into London: the purchases for the week consist of only-28 Boweds 21d.; 30 Pernams 2. 2d.; 150 Bengals 10d, to 10 d. in the house; 10 Smyrnas 1840.. SUGAR.-There has been little business doce in Muscovades this week, owing to the very limited supplies of new descriptions; it is expected that the late arrivals will be brought forward freely on Tuesday next, until which time there will be little or no purchases made; the prices cannot be stated al any variation: some new Jamaicas have been sold-brown at 76s.; fine 90s. There appears an increasing demand for Refined goods; the business done since the bolidays has been considerable; the prices are is. higher.-Molasses are in less request, and may be purchased a shade lower. There is ittle or no business doing in Foreign Sugars. COFFEE-Coffee continues to attract great attention, the business done by private contract early in the week was very considerable, at generally higher prices. At the public sale of yesterday however there appeated less demand, and the prices in several instances went 2s, lower than the previous rates by private contract. The demand by private contract this forenoon is very limited; the market may be stated exceeding heavy to-day at our quotations. RICE. The quantity of Rice brought forward this forenoon has been extensive: above 7000 bags at the India House, and at the public sules; the prices have declined 2. to 3. per cwt.; ordinary quality 17s. 6d. to 1%. 6d. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.There is little business doing in Rum; the prices cannot be stated at any variationBrandies are offered considerably lower, tanut facilitating sales.-Geneva is unTared. TALLOW.-The price of Foreign Tallow are considerably lower; the present quotations are however nearly nominal on account of the little business doing.-The Town market is to-day quoted 76s, which is 6d. lower than last week. FRIDAY, MAY 22. COTTON.-The extensive arrivals have occasioned a great stagnation in the Cotton market; it is however anticipated, that if the easterly winds continue for a week or two preventing further supplies, that there will be a renewal in the demand. The purchases since our last are very trivial, consisting only of 100 Pernams 2s. 1d.; 150 Bahias 2s.; 140 Bengals 10d. to 10 d. SUGAR.-The market is now well supplied with new Sugars, and as the importers accept freely the currency of the day, and are rather anxious to bring their Muscovades to immediate sale, a depression of 1s. to 2s. per cwt. has been submitted to: it is believed, that as the wholesale grocers and refiners are out of stock, that the purchases for several weeks will be on a very extensive scale. In refined goods there has been little business doing; the stock is however still very limited, and no reduction in the prices can be stated.-Molasses are in greater request at an advancing currency. In Foreign Sugars there is no variation, COFFEE.-The Coffee market early in the week declined about 1s. per cwt. and was heavy at the reduction. On Wednesday favourable accounts were received from the Continent, particularly from Hamburgh, an advance of 3s. to 4s. immediately took place; the rise was fully supported at an extensive public sale yesterday. This forenoon there was also brought forward 120 casks and 302 bags Berbice; the first lots, middling, but a favourite mark, sold so bigh as 137s. and 137s. 6d.; ordinary at 125s. 6d. We quote the Coffee market since Tuesday last at an advance of 5s, to 6s. per cwt. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.The prices of Rum may be stated at a considerable decline; the market is heavy at the depression-Brandy has given way very seriously: there have been two public sales brought forward; the first consisted of inferior Cogniac, returned from a port in the Baltic, which was all taken in at 6s, to 7s.; a few puncheons, real good quality, sold at an average of 8s. 7d. per gallon; a little inferior bought in at 8s. 1d.: Cette, of good quality, bought in at 5s.-In Geneva there is little variation. TALLOW.-There was a considerable public sale of Foreign Tallow advertised for this forenoon, but it has been disposed of by private contract; the quotations of Yellow Candle Tallow are the last prices realized.-The Town market is to-day quoted 76s, which is the same as last week.
