12700 WEGUELIN'S (George, Laureat to the Eccentric Society) Poetical Works (The Eccentric; an Olympic Romance; and Poems written in early Life) 3 vols. 8vo, cloth lettered, 17. 1s. Privately printed, 1829-30-32

George Weguelin, Gent. for his singular poetical talents was unanimously elected Poet Laureat to the Eccentric Society, and printed these “inimitable" poems to protect himself from the plagiarism of one of his BrotherEccentrics, who circulated some of these effusions" in a crude and incorrected state," as his own compositions. Disdaining all mercenary considerations, he distributed all the copies gratuitously; thus making good his own lines:

"And tho' 'tis said he's an author of little note,
He never receiv'd a farthing for what he wrote."

1805

This is Lord Wellesley's triumphant defence of the policy pursued by him during his administration of the Indian Government. He answers the draft paragraph by paragraph; and by the production of documents, at once exposes the malice of his accusers, the value of his appointments, and the ignorance of those who countenanced the charges brought against him. His defence of the appointment of Major-General Wellesley (THE DUke of WELLINGTON) will be read with great interest, as it was this appointment which first called into action those energies of the Noble Duke, which in war and peace have been the preservation of this country.
