"Let me commend one book to you, the Titles of Honor, a book of so much use and learning, that I know no other extant in our language more befitting a gentleman and a scholar to read, and read again, till he be well versed in it, not only to furnish himself with ingenious matter concerning all titles of honour, but with many excellent things, especially about that grand question of the original nature and constitution of parliaments. In short, it is the best book Selden ever writ."—

Poet, and a History of the Early English Drama, by
John Payne Collier; 8 vols. 8vo, cloth, 4/. 16s. 1842-43

A good library edition of Shakspeare is apparently a desideratum not likely to be supplied. Of the two recent publications, by Mr. Knight and Mr. Collier, the less said the better. The utilitarian principle carried out in the ILLUSTRATED SHAKSPEARE of Mr. Knight can never satisfactorily elucidate the beauties of the Poet; whilst Mr. Collier's labours but confirm the truth of

"How commentators each dark passage shun, And hold their farthing candle to the sun." WHY DOES NOT MR. DYCE GIVE US AN EDITION WORTHY OF THE POET?
