5 The proud are robbed, they have slept their 'sleep and all the men whose hands were mighty 23 have 45 found nothing.

7 Thou, even thou art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight 23 when thou art angry? 8 Thou didst cause thy judgment to be heard 3 from heaven the earth trem-3bled, 4 and 5 was 6 still:

Psalm lxxvii. Voce mea ad Dominum.

2 In the time of my trouble I sought the Lord : my sore ran, and ceased not in the night-season ;* my 2 soul 3re-4fu-5sed comfort.

14 Thou art the God that 2do-3 est 4 wonders : and hast declared thy power 3a-'mong the people. 15 Thou hast mightily de-livered thy people : even the sons of 2Ja-3 cob 45 and Joseph.

17 The clouds poured out water, the 23 air thundered and thine 2ar-3 rows went 5a- 6 broad.

Evening Prayer.

Psalm lxxviii. Attendite, popule.

EAR my law, 20 3my people : incline your ears unto the 23 words of 5my mouth.

2 I will open my mouth in a 2par-3a-1ble: I will declare hard 2 sen-3 ten-4 ces 5 of 6old:

3 Which we have heard and known and such as our 23 fa-4thers 5 have told us :

4 That we should not hide them from the children of the gener-2ations to come but to show the honour of the LORD,* his mighty and wonderful works 23 that he hath done.

4

6

2

5 He made a covenant with Jacob, and gave Isra3 3 el a law which he commanded our forefathers to

23 teach 45 their children:

6 That their posterity might 23 know it : and the children which were yet un-born :

7 To the intent that when they came up : they might show their chil-'dren "the same : 8 That they might put their trust in God and not to forget the works of God,* but to 5 com-6 mandments:

9 And not to be as their forefathers,* a faithless and stubborn 2gen-3er-1ation: a generation that set not their heart aright,* and whose spirit cleaveth not 2stead-fastly un-5 to 6 God:

10 Like as the children of E-3phra-'im who being harnessed, and carrying bows,* turned themselves back in the day of battle.

3

5

11 They kept not the covenant 23 of 4 God and would not 23 walk in 5 his law:

12 But forgat what he had done and the wonderful works that he had 4show-5ed for them. 13 Marvellous things did he in the sight of our forefathers,* in the land of Egypt even in the 23 field 45 of "Zoan.

4

14 He divided the sea, and let them 23 go through : he made the waters to 23 stand on 5an heap. 15 In the day-time also he led them with 3a cloud and all the night through with a 'light 5 of 6 fire.

2

3

16 He clave the hard rocks in the wil-3der*ness and gave them drink thereof," as it had been 2 out of the great depth.

3

:

17 He brought waters out of the 2sto-3ny rock : so that it gushed 23 out like 5 the rivers.

3

18 Yet for all this they sinned 2 more 3a-1gainst him and provoked the Most Highest in the wil5 der-ness.

:

3

19 They tempted God in their hearts and required 23 meat for 5 their lust.

3

20 They spake against God al-3 so, saying Shall God prepare a table in 3 the 'wil-5 der-ness? 21 He smote the stony rock indeed,* that the water gushed out, and the streams flowed with-1al: but can he give bread also, or provide 23 flesh for 5 his 'people?

2

3

22 When the LORD heard this, he was wroth : so the fire was kindled in Jacob,* and there came up heavy dis-2 pleas-3ure a-45gainst Israel:

4

23 Because they believed not 3in God and put not their 23 trust in his help.

24 So he commanded the 2 clouds 3a-4bove and opened the 23 doors 45 of "heaven.

2

25 He rained down manna also upon them for 3 to eat and gave them food 5 from "heaven. 26 So man did eat an-3gels' food for he sent 3 them meat 5e-nough.

2

27 He caused the east-wind to blow 2 un-3 der

3

4

6

28 He rained flesh upon them as 2 thick as dust : and feathered fowls* like as the 23 sand 4 of 5 the sea. 29 He let it fall a-2mong their tents: even round a-2bout 3 their 4 hab-5i- tation.

30 So they did eat, and were well filled;* for he gave them their own 3de-sire: they were not disap-point-3ed 1of 5 their lust.

31 But while the meat was yet in their mouths,* the heavy wrath of God came upon them,* and slew the 2 wealth-3iest of them yea, and smote down the chosen 2 men that were in Israel.

3

32 But for all this they sinned 23 yet more : and believed not 3 his won-5 drous works.

4

33 Therefore their days did he con-2sume 3in 4 vanity and their 23 years 45 in trouble.

6

6

34 When he slew them, they 23 sought him and turned them early, and in-2qui-3 red af- 5ter God. 35 And they remembered that God was 3 their * strength and that the high 2 God was their 5re❝ deemer.

38 But he was so merciful,* that he forgave their 23 mis-deeds and de-2stroy-3ed 45 them not.
