Report of the committee appointed to investigate the affairs and condition of the Bank of Macomb county and Oakland county bank.

Detroit, February 15, 1839.

To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives.

The committee appointed by a joint resolution of the legisla ture, to examine into the affairs and condition of the Bank of Macomb county and Oakland county bank, have the honor to communicate a report in part of the result of their investigation, which is herewith transmitted.

REPORT, &c.

In compliance with the joint resolution of the legislature of February instant, the undersigned visited the banking-house of the Oakland county bank, on the 6th day of the present month, and made an examination into the affairs and condition of the said institution.

This bank purports to have been organized under the provisions of a charter granted by the legislature of this state, approved March 28, 1836, entitled "An act to incorporate the Oakland county bank."

The following statement of the affairs and condition of the institution was furnished to the undersigned, by the officers in charge of the bank at the time of examination, viz:

The amount due from other banks, the largest item among the assets of the bank, was found to consist of certain notes and acceptances which had been forwarded to certain banks for collection, and were as follows, to wit:

Godard, on Isaac Bacon, and endorsed by E.
Hewitt, dated March 7, and February 10, 1838,
at three and four months, amounting to
In the Farmers' bank of Troy, a draft made by Da-
niel Greene on James Taylor, and accepted, due in

In the Phoenix bank, eight drafts of $500 each, made
by Charles Wells, on Daniel Greene, and accepted
