Nor perhaps jhould I have had any Thoughts of pub li/bing them at the Time I did, if I had not been pre vail'd with, partly from the fear of a fitrreptitious Copy, but much more from King William's having font me by the late Earl of Portland the Manufcript 1 had given his Queen, found in her Cabinet 3 where upon the bath of it, [he had writ with her own Hand the Promife /he had made me of/howing it to no body without my Con/ent.
