AN ACT

To confer upon certain officers in authority power to administer oaths of office.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Alabama, That the speaker of the House of Rep- Speaker of resentatives shall have power to administer the offi- House to adcial oath of office to the Secretary of State, the Auditor, to State offState Treasurer, Superintendent of Education, Super-cers. intendent of Industrial Resources, Attorney General, Judges of the Supreme Court, Chancellors, and Judges of the Circuit Court, who were elected to said offices, at the election held for State officers, on the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th days of February, 1868; and said officers are hereby authorized to enter upon the discharge of their duties immediately upon the administration of the oath prescribed by the constitution of this State, and by the laws of the United States, as aforesaid, and giving bond as required by law.

SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That the judges and chancellors of the several courts mentioned in the first section of this act, shall have power in like manner, Chancellors to Judges and after having qualified as authorized in said section, to administer administer the oath of office to the several judges of bate Judges. probate elected at said election, or who may be appointed by the Governor to fill the vacancies which may exist in the present terms for which they have been Probate Judgelected, and said judges of probate, after having thus es to qualify qualified, shall have power in like manner, to qualify the county officers
