HE Proprietors of this little periodical Work are happy in presenting their numerous Friends with a copious INDEX and TITLE to the first Volume. That univerfal and unusual Satisfaction which it has given, induced them to engage a Gentleman of Abilities to perform this necessary and effential Task. Numerous Avocations have indeed intervened, from Time to Time, to prevent its Completion; but the great Multiplicity of Matter required extraordinary Attention, and fully fatisfied as they themselves are with the Execution, they hope their numerous Friends will be equally satisfied and amply recompenfed for this unavoidable Delay. Intimately as they have been converfant in the Work from the Time of its Commencement, the Variety of the Materials has far furpaffed their Ideas; and their Friends, they doubt not, will be equally ready to give the Tribute of Applause where it is so justly due.

OUR Correspondents, we truft, will excuse our observing the Propriety of supplying us with proper Solutions to all Queries which remain unanswered; for the Propofers in fuch Cafes are always the fittest Perfons to supply the Editors with a Key, and many of our Friends have, on that Account, urged the Neceffity of our requesting such Solutions before they can recommend us to infert any Anfwers.

It has been our principal Wish to make our MISCELLANY the Vehicle of Antiquarian Knowledge; and we have the flattering Prospect that we shall shortly receive a regular Supply of Matter for that Purpose. To become the Repofitory of useful Intelligence in this Department, has been the favourite Object of the Editors in publishing it; but we wish to be understood as foliciting Communications of this Description from every Quarter, to which the most flattering Marks of Approbation shall be manifested. Every Attention will be paid to the Efforts of our numerous Correspondents to elucidate any Part of ancient History, whether local, civil, or ecclefiaftical and monaftic.

GRATEFUL as we would wish to appear to our Friends for their numerous Communications, we cannot close our Addrefs without expreffing a Hope that they will not be lefs attentive to fuch Information as is more particularly the Object of the Editors in the Progrefs of this little MISCELLANY.
