city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof." Rev. xxi. 22, 23. The preparation for that glorious time is now going on by the preaching of the Gospel, in connexion with a more full announcing of the Second Advent. The Spirit has been pleased to awaken the Church to a more serious consideration, and a more distinct testimony, to this revealed event. And in the light of this truth the hearts of many have been unveiled, as we expect the hearts of the Jews will at length have the veil taken away by a knowledge of their Saviour. 2 Cor. iii. 14-16. Yet a while (perhaps but a little while) the Gospel must be preached to the world as a testimony to the mercy of God in Christ. Divine grace must prepare the entrance of it into more hearts, by the removal of prejudice and ignorance. The solemn warning must yet be sounded, THE LORD COMETH; and awful judgments must be commissioned to awaken mankind, that all may be done that can be done, to leave them without excuse, if they are overtaken while yet in their sins and unbelief by the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ. And all flesh "shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." Matt. xxiv. 30. "Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him." Rev. i. 7. Those who know not now the glory of the Lord spiritually, who look not and wait not for its future revelation, will not then see it as their coming salvation, but will wail at the sight. "Therefore be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." Matt. xxiv. 44. It is above all things important that we be found at that time doing the Lord's work and speaking the Lord's words. "Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing." Matt. xxiv. 46. He will say to him, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant . . enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matt. xxv. 21. CONTENT S. I. THE ADVENT OF THE LORD. By the Rev. PAGE 1 II.
