PREFACE.

AGREEABLY to the announcement made in the August Issue, the Publisher has the pleasure to issue the present number with the contemplated improvements.

The Alphabetical List has been entirely re-arranged, and the Names are now given in Alphabetical Order instead of according to rank and seniority.

The Dates of Entry and Promotion are likewise given.

A List of the various Ships that have been Commissioned and Paid out of Commission during the past Quarter is also appended.

Individual Officers are strongly urged to send to the Publisher, for future Issues, a List, with dates of each Ship served in, and such other personal notes as may be useful; the Information here desired, being for use on the principle of “O'Bryan's Naval Biography."

Officers in charge of Engines, are desired to furnish Particulars of the Machinery under their charge, for the purpose of appending to the present List of Ships.

The Publisher desires once more to express his gratitude for the valuable assistance rendered him in the compilation of the present List, and respectfully slicits a continuance.
