And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Ὅπου ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ, καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται.

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Καὶ ἐὰν ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου σκανδαλίζη σε, ἔκβαλε αὐτόν· καλόν σοι ἐστὶ μονόφθαλμον εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἢ δύο ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν γέενναν τοῦ πυρὸς·

And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire :

Πᾶς γὰρ πυρὶ ἁλισθήσεται, καὶ πᾶσα θυσία ἁλὶ ἁλισθήσεται.

For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with

And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the

lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out, Luke xiv. 34, 35.

Let nothing be done through strife or vain-glory; but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem other better than themselves, ii. 2, 3. Put on therefore, as the

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neigh-elect of God, holy and beloved, bowbour as thyself; I am the LORD, Lev. xix. 18. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Ps. cxxxiii. 1. A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another, Rom. xii. 10. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men, 18. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another, xiv. 19. That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it, 1 Cor. xii. 25, 26. Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you, 2 Cor. xiii. 11. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law, Gal. v. 22, 23. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, Eph. iv. 2, 3. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving

els of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful, Col. iii. 12 -15. And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you, 1 Thess. iii. 12. But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God. to love one another, iv. 9. Follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the name of the Lord out of a pure heart, 2 Tim. ii. 22. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord, Heb. xii. 14. Let brotherly love continue, xiii. 1. If ye fulfil the royal law according to the Scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well, Jam. ii. 8. The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace, iii. 17, 18. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently, 1 Pet. i. 22. Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous, iii.

VER. 7.

Ενεκεν τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν

κολληθήσεται πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὑτοῦ·

For this cause shall a man leave his

And the Pharisees came to him, and
asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put

̓Αμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὃς ἐὰν μὴ δέξηται τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς παιδίον, οὐ μὴ εἰσέλ θῃ εἰς αὐτήν.

* And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

VER. 20.

Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς, εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Διδάσκαλε, ταῦτα πάντα ἐφυλαξάμην ἐκ νεότητός μου.

And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

VER. 21.

Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς, ἐμβλέψας αὐτῷ, ἀγάπης σεν αὐτὸν, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εν σοι ὑστερεῖ· ὕπαγε, ὅσα ἔχεις πώλησον, καὶ δὸς τοῖς πτωχοῖς· καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν οὐρα νῷ· καὶ δεῦρο, ἀκολούθει μοι, ἄρας τὸν σταυ ρόν.

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: ago thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Εὐκοπώτερόν ἐστι κάμηλον διὰ τῆς τρυ μαλιᾶς τῆς ῥαφίδος εἰσελθεῖν, ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν.

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

VER. 26.

Οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἐξεπλήσσοντο, λέγοντες πρὸς ἑαυτούς· Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι ; And they were astonished out of mea- sure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?

VER. 27.

Εμβλέψας δὲ αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, λέγει· Παρὰ ἀνθρώποις ἀδύνατον, ἀλλ ̓ οὐ παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ· πάντα γὰρ δυνατά ἐστι παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ.

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

VER. 28.

Καὶ ἤρξατο ὁ Πέτρος λέγειν αὐτῷ· Ἰδού, ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν πάντα, καὶ ἠκολουθήσα

μεν σοι.

Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

VER. 29.

̓Αποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, εἶπεν· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν· οὐδείς ἐστιν ὃς ἀφῆκεν οἰκίαν, ἢ ἀδελφοὺς, ἢ ἀδελφὰς, ἢ πατέρα, ἢ μητέρα, ἡ γυναῖκα, ἢ τέκνα, ἢ ἀγροὺς, ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ καὶ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου,

a And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the Gospel's,

VER. 30.

Ἐὰν μὴ λάβῃ ἑκατονταπλασίονα νῦν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ, οἰκίας, καὶ ἀδελφοὺς, καὶ ἀδελφὰς, καὶ μητέρας, καὶ τέκνα, καὶ ἀγροὺς, μετὰ διωγμῶν, καὶ ἐν τῷ αἰῶνι τῷ ἐρχομένῳ ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands,a with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

Πολλοὶ δὲ ἔσονται πρῶτοι, ἔσχατοι· καὶ οἱ ἔσχατοι, πρῶτοι.

But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

VER. 32.

Ησαν δὲ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἀναβαίνοντες εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα· καὶ ἦν προάγων αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἐθαμβοῦντο, καὶ ἀκολουθοῦντες ἐφοβοῦντο. Καὶ παραλαβὼν πάλιν τοὺς δώδε κα ἤρξατο αὐτοῖς λέγειν τὰ μέλλοντα αὐτῷ συμβαίνειν·

a And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed ; band as they followed, they were afraid. c And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,

a And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the Chief Priests and unto the Scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, Matt. xx. 17, 18. Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished, Luke xviii. 31.

Ὅτι ἰδοὺ, ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδοθήσεται τοῖς ̓Αρχιερεῦσι καὶ τοῖς Γραμματεῦσι, καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτὸν θανὰτῳ, καὶ παραδώσουσιν αὐτὸν τοῖς ἔθνεσι·

Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the Chief Priests, and unto the Scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
