Mr. Overturf moved that the rules of the Senate of the SeventyFifth General Assembly should govern the Senate until otherwise provided for.

Which was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Connell the Senate proceeded to the election of officers.

The election of President pro tem. being first in order-
Mr. Godfrey nominated for said office Mr. Chamberlain.
Mr. Berry nominated for said office Mr. Crites.

Those who voted for Mr. Chamberlain were—

Messrs. Austin, Bruce, Carson, Cassatt, Connell, Crites, Dunlap, Godfrey, Harding, Harris, Harrison, Harvey, Heinlein, Hypes, Judson, Kinsman, Lauman, Moore, Oskamp, Overturf, Pollock, Ricketts, Shal'enberger, Shumaker, Silberberg, Smith, Stewart and West-28. Those who voted for Mr. Crites were

Messrs. Berry, Carter, Chamberlain and Houck-4.

So Mr. Chamberlain having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared to be duly elected to the office of President pro tem. of the Senate.

Mr. Crites moved that the election of Mr. Chamberlain be made unanimous.

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Chamberlain appeared at the bar of the Senate and took an oath, administered by Justice Shauck of the Supreme Court of Ohio, to support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Ohio, and also an oath of office.

The next business in order being the election of Clerk—
Mr. Harrison nominated for said office Mr. F. E. Scobey.
Those who voted for Mr. Scobey were—

Messrs. Austin, Berry, Bruce, Carson, Carter, Cassatt, Chamberlain, Connell, Crites, Dunlap, Godfrey, Harding. Harris, Harrison, Harvey, Heinlein, Houck, Hypes, Judson, Kinsman, Lauman, Moore, Oskamp, Overturf, Pollock, Ricketts, Shallenberger, Shumaker, Silberberg, Smith, Stewart and West-32.

So Mr. Scobey having received a majority of all votes cast, was declared to be duly elected to the office of Clerk.

Mr. Scobey appeared at the bar of the Senate and took an oath administered by Justice Shauck of the Supreme Court of Ohio, to support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Ohio, and also an oath of office.

The election of a Journal Clerk being next in order—

Mr. Silberberg nominated for said office Mr. W. B. Brown.

Those who voted for Mr. Brown were

Messrs. Austin, Berry, Bruce, Carson, Carter, Cassatt, Chamberlain, Connell, Crites, Dunlap, Godfrey, Harding, Harris, Harrison, Harvey, Heinlein. Houck, Hypes, Judson, Kinsman, Lauman, Moore, Oskamp, Overturf, Pollock, Ricketts, Shallenberger, Shumaker, Silberberg, Smith, Stewart and West-32.

So Mr. Brown having receive a majority of all votes cast, was declared to be duly elected to the office of Journal Clerk.

The next business in order being the election of Message Clerk, Mr. West nominated for said office Mr. Frank G. McCracken.

Those who voted for Mr. McCracken were

Messrs. Austin, Berry, Bruce, Carson, Carter, Cassatt, Chamberlain, Connell, Crites, Dunlap, Godfrey, Harding, Harris, Harrison, Harvey, Heinlein, Houck, Hypes, Judson, Kinsman, Lauman, Moore, Oskamp, Overturf, Pollock, Ricketts, Shallenberger, Shumaker, Silberberg, Smith, Stewart and West-32.

So Mr. McCracken having received a majority of all votes cast, was declared duly elected to the office of Message Clerk.

The next business in order being the election of Engrossing Clerk, Mr. Overturf nominated for said office Mr. Harlan Reed.

Those who voted for Mr. Read were—

Messrs. Austin, Berry, Bruce, Carson, Carter, Cassatt, Chamberlain, Connell, Crites, Dunlap, Godfrey, Harding, Harris, Harrison, Harvey, Heinlein, Houck, Hypes, Judson, Kinsman, Lauman, Moore, Oslamp, Overturf, Pollock, Ricketts, Shallenberger, Shumaker, Silberberg, Smith, Stewart and West-32.

So Mr. Reed having received a majority of all votes cast, was declared duly elected to the office of Engrossing Clerk.

The next business in order being the election of Enrolling Clerk, Mr. Kinsman nominated for said office Mr. Richard Lynch.

Those who voted for Mr. Lynch were

So Mr. Lynch having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected to said office.

The next business in order being the election of Recording Clerk, Mr. Dunlap nominated for said office Mr. Charles L. Thurber.

Those who voted for Mr. Thurber were

So Mr. Thurber having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected to said office.

The next business in order being the election of Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr. Harris nominated for said office Mr. L. S. Pardee.

The next business in order being the election of Second Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr. Shumaker nominated for said office Mr. William

Strick.

So Mr. Strick having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected to said office.

The President handed down the following communication from the Clerk:

Regular Session.

To the Senate:

I hereby request the Senate to appoint Malcolm Jennings Assistant Clerk of the Senate, and I certify his services to be necessary.

Mr. Moore offered the following resolution:

S. R. No. 1—

Whereas The Chief Clerk has certified to the Senate the need of an Assistant Clerk, therefore, be it

Resolved, That Malcolm Jennings be appointed Assistant Clerk, and that his compensation be the same as paid other clerks of the Senate. The question being on the adoption of the resolution, the yeas and nays were taken, and resulted-yeas 32, nays o, as follows:

Mr. Harris offered the following resolution:

Whereas, The Sergeant-at-Arms has certified to the Senate the necessity for three additional Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, therefore be it Resolved by the Senate, That C. S. Cadot, Joseph Marsh and W. V. Blake be appointed Assistant Sergeants-at-Arms, and that their compensation is hereby fixed at the same per diem as the other Assistant Sergeants-at-Arms.

The question being on the adoption of the resolution, the yeas and nays were taken, and resulted—yeas 32, nays o, as follows:

Resolved, That the following persons be appointed by the Senate to fill the positions named: Doorkeepers, I. S. Mowder and J. K. Richards; Custodians of Cloak Room, Douglas W. Rawlings and Wilbur Hart; Stenographers, Misses Lida K. Merrimon, Florence H. Cummins, Laura Boyd, Mary E. Worrell and one to be named by the Lieutenant-Governorelect; Porters, Thomas C. Simmons, Nelson Winslow, Frank Buchanan, Emil Teitelbaum, P. H. Danenhauer, William Rogers, John J. Martin, and Edward L. Parker; Pages, Charles R. Gress, Norris G. Henthorn, Bruce Bazler, Frank W. Otis, Ira McBride and Roland E. Teegarden; and that the compensation of such employes shall be as follows: Doorkeepers, Custodians and Porters, $3.50 per diem each; stenographers, $5.00 per diem each; Pages, $2.50 per diem each.

-) on the part of the House be appointed to wait upon the Governor and inform him that the General Assembly is now in session and ready to receive any communication which he may see fit to transmit.

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, That the Sergeant-at-Arms be directed to make the necessary arrangements with the postmaster at Columbus for the transmission of mail to the Senate.

Mr. Rickets offered the following joint resolution:

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, That a committee of five on the part of the Senate and ( -) on the part of the House be appointed to make necessary and proper arrangements for the inauguration of the Governor-elect on Monday, January 11, 1904.
