METROPOLITAN OCCURRENCES. Prince Leopold has been detained much longer abroad than he intended by his attention to his mother during a severe ill ness. H. R. H. is now on his way back to England. During his absence his establishment, including the attendants and domestics of his late beloved Princess, has been kept up the same as if he was in England. The repairs of the mansionhouse at Claremont have been completed at an unexpected expense of upwards of 15,0007., the dry rot having been discovered to have gotten into the whole building. Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, and a numerous suite in their train, have ar rived in four carriages, at No. 65, in Wimpole-street, which house has been lately taken, and fitted up in a most magnificent style for their reception; their Royal Highnesses having declined accepting the proffers of his Majesty, in order to live as private as possible during their residence in this country. The Duke and Duchess of Clarence are about to occupy Walmer Castle, which has been lent to them by the Earl of Liver pool for the benefit of the sea air for the Duchess, who has not recovered her health since her miscarriage. Their Royal Highnesses will proceed there in a few days. The whole of the King's establishment have left Brighton. Marquisses of Conyngham and Londonderry, Lord Montcharles, Sir W. Knighton, and Mr. Walker the apothecary, are to attend his Majesty in his ensuing visit to the continent. The Marchionesses of Conyngham and Londonderry join the royal escort at Paris and Vienna. According to a return presented to the House of Commons, the number of persons admitted to see the British Museum, from the 26th of March, 1821, to the 25th of March, 1822, amounted to 91,151. The days of public admission are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, in every week, between the hours of ten and two, visitors are admitted immediately upon their application. It would be well if our other public institutions were placed upon the same footing as the British Museum. Madame Christophe, ci-devant Empress of Hayti, is about to take up her residence at Blackheath. It is generally understood, that she has saved about 1,5001. per annum from the wreck of her deceased husband's fortune. In consequence of the decease of Sir Isaac Heard, the following promotions have taken place in the College of Arms;Sir George Nayler, to be Garter King of Arms; Ralph Bigland, Esq. Clarenceux; Edmund Lodge, Esq. Norroy; George Frederick Beltz, Esq. Lancaster; and James Pulman, esq. Portcullis. A small quantity of young green peas, which when shelled would probably fill about a pint measure, were lately produced in Covent Garden market, and for which the enormous price of four guineas were demanded. Religious Tract Society.-The Twentythird Annual Meeting ofthis Society was held on Friday the 10th, at the City of London Tavern. Upwards of 1,000 persons as Mrs. Henry Gompertz sembled, and sat down to breakfast; the great room was so crowded, that many individuals were necessitated to leave for want of room. After breakfast, J. Rayner, Esq. took the chair, and the Report was read, from which it appeared that, since the last annual meeting of the Society, five millions two hundred and twenty-two thousand four hundred and seventy copies of the publications of the Society had been issued, and since the establishment of the institution, no less than 45 millions had been put into circulation among all classes of society, exclusive of many millions printed abroad in foreign languages at the Society's expence. Several speeches were delivered, and a handsome collection made. The amount of gold coined from the 13th of June 1818, to the 31st December, 1821, is 10,473,2491. 1s. 8s. The subscription in aid of the distressed Irish, now being raised in the city, already amounts to a considerable sum; and, as it is expected that almost every town throughout the country will vie with the metropolis in this charitable duty, we insert under the head of Ireland well authenticated accounts of the unparalleled distress; so that, as far as the circulation of our Magazine extends, no one may be ignorant of the dire necessity that exists for immediate and liberal contributions in aid of a starving population. To these accounts we earnestly invite the attention of all our readers. BIRTHS IN AND NEAR THE METROPOLIS. The Right Hon. Lady Amelia Sophia Boyce Mrs. J. F. Smallman, Pentonville Mrs. S.
